Anti-Racism and Inclusion

Public Engagement cross-cuts all VIDEA work with each programme and project committee integrating awareness raising and community engagement activities into their work – this is especially true for our programs in Canada. VIDEA works closely with communities throughout BC, especially in the Vancouver Island, Kootenay, and Okanagan Districts of the province to engage youth, community members and stakeholders in the work of our chapters. In all, over 187 volunteers, give over 13,000 hours to support VIDEA programmes in the last year alone!

Programs in Canada have focused around VIDEA’s community twinning programme, International Development Week, Aboriginal Awareness Week , the Fair Trade Fair and VIDEA’ annual Solidarity Challenge. Through these programmes,  VIDEA provides opportunities for citizens to take part in learning events that focus on how issues such as poverty, homelessness, gender equality, access to quality education, access to healthcare etc. affect their own communities as well as communities in other parts of the world.
