Early on in the pandemic we knew it would be important to find ways to support our community. We put together a plan to care for and support Elders.
Hillary and Makayla are working hard to deliver this support to Elders. They have coordinated hot meal drop-offs and other initiatives, which served to show our love and care while also providing activities that the Elders could do safely from home.
Many of us pivoted online for connection, community and entertainment, however not all Elders were able to make this change to combat boredom and isolation. Hillary and Makayla have been working to create care baskets that include Indigenous art materials, plant seedlings, puzzles and food.
VIDEA would like to acknowledge the ancestral, traditional and unceded Indigenous territories of the WS’ANEC’ (Saanich), Tsartlip and Tsawout (central Saanich), Lekwungen (Songhees), Wyomilth (Esquimalt) and T’Sou-ke (Sooke) Coast Salish Peoples, on whose territory we work, live and play.
