Rise Up! is led by seven Indigenous youth leaders who are working with their communities to build understandings of racism and discrimination – from root causes of racism to addressing and confronting it. Indigenous youth leaders learned from each other, community leaders, and Elders to build and solidify their understanding of racism and discrimination. A photo diary project allowed youth leaders to ‘visit’ each others communities through photos and stories. It has been amazing for the group to learn about racism from an international perspective from youth leaders in Southern Africa.
Having built this solid foundational understanding, youth leaders will work with their communities to develop a film sharing the cultural strengths and diversity of each of the seven communities. Stay tuned to check out their video!
Rise Up! is funded by Canadian Heritage, Community Support, Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program (CSMARI).
